Any event in your community can be a story. What is happening where you live?
PARAMETERS
Written entries should be no more than 500 words. The minimum entry is 100 words. Photos should be 300 dpi. Entries with video components should be no more than 5 minutes in length. Entries should be edited and ready to post on the Virtual Voices Village website.
WHO CAN ENTER
This contest is open to British Columbia students with disabilities, who are enrolled in grades K-12, and who use technology to write.
WINNERS
Categories include grades K-7, grades 8-12 and participation. Grand, Gold, Silver and Bronze prizes will be awarded. 1 digital camera will be awarded as a Grand prize to the overall best entry. 1 iPod Shuffle will be awarded as the Gold prize in each category. Silver prize, and Bronze prizes are to be announced. All entrants will receive a certificate of participation.
Entries will be judged on:
- keeping to the theme of community newsworthy events
- originality
- clarity
Participation prizes will be awarded based on a draw. Did we mention that everyone has a chance to win?
HOW TO SUBMIT ENTRIES
For written entries, e-mail to submissions@vvvillage.org. For entries with a visual component, make image files such as a jpeg or tiff file with a minimum 300 dpi. Send multimedia files as an email attachment. If your email attachment is more than 5 mb, please upload your files to http://sendspace.com and make sure the recipient is submissions@vvvillage.org .
CONTEST DEADLINE
The contest deadline is Friday, May 29, 2009 at 4:00 p.m. Pacific Time. No late entries will be accepted.
The Virtual Voices Village Community Reporting Contest is produced by Special Education Technology-British Columbia (SET-BC) and supported in part by 2010 Legacies Now, and 3M. SET-BC is the exclusive producer and administrator of the contest. By submitting an entry for the contest, each entrant unconditionally agrees to be bound by the rules and the decisions of the producer, which shall be final and binding in all respects. Failure to comply with the rules will result in an automatic disqualification of the entrant from the contest.
CONDITONS OF ENTRY
All entries are subject to verification and will be declared invalid if they are not original by the writer/artist, or falsified in any way. The entry must be composed by and be the original work of the entrant, and must not violate the rights of any third party. The entrant will need to obtain written permission from his/her parent/guardian, this can be done by completing the consent form and mailing it to SET-BC.
SELECTION PROCESS
The potential winner(s) will be selected from eligible entries received by the contest closing deadline. The judging panel will be comprised of SET-BC staff members and students to be determined.
